Do you live your dream life? Chances are you are not. In fact, according to the Social Security Administration, if you take 100 random people at the beginning of their working careers and follow them over the next 40 years until they reach retirement, you will find that:
- 1 will be wealthy
- 4 will be financially secure
- 5 will continue working because they have to
- 36 will have passed away
- 54 will be broke
In other words, only 5% of these people will live their dream life. This statistic isn’t meant to depress you, but rather to wake you up to the fact that if you want to live your dream life, you are going to have to take action. Your dream life doesn’t just happen to you, you need to make it happen.
Why Don’t You Live Your Dream Life?
Many people never live their dream life because they are stuck in the past. We think that what has happened to us make us who we are and what we will be. But it doesn’t have to be this way. But we allow ourselves to put limitations on our life.
The limiting thoughts you had yesterday are the same ones you have today. The doubt you had the other day, it’s still there today as well. You need to make a change to the way you live life and your thought patterns if you want to live your dream life. So how do you do this?
How To Live Your Dream Life
The first step to live your dream life is to change your thought pattern. You need to strike out the negative thoughts that you have, including the worry, and learn how to think positively. When you learn to think positively, you become more hopeful, more energetic and you see the good in life. The little things that used to drag you down no longer do so. You become a happy person.
What’s Your Purpose?
The next step is to figure out what your purpose is. Why do you want to live life? What drives you every day? If you ask this question to most people, they won’t be able to answer you. They are simply concerned with today, with how to survive today. If you want to live your dream life, you need something to drive you, to motivate you to get out of the bed in the morning. What is that thing you want so badly? Is it to be the best parent ever? To retire by 50? You need to find your purpose.
What Do Your Actions Say About You?
The third step to live your dream life is to stop isolating incidents. Many times we think that we get another chance tomorrow to make up for that missed workout today. Or we can eat badly today and go back to eating healthy tomorrow. You need to understand that every choice you make is determining who you are. Are you the type to make excuses, to take the easy road all of the time?
Think about it in this way: every action we make is determining who we are becoming and how great our life is going to be. If you want to retire by 50 and you buy a brand new car every 5 years, odds are you are never going to live your dream life of retiring by 50.
That one missed workout might not seem important but if you miss one workout on a regular basis it is going to affect you being the greatest parent of all time because you won’t have the energy to run around with your kids all day long.
While one thing here and there seems insignificant, it has an effect on our future life. In many ways, this contributes to us not living our dream life.
Find A Friend
Finally, you need to get an accountability partner. We are better able to stand firm on our wants, desires and dreams when we have someone else in our corner with us. It’s hard to reach your dream life by yourself. There are going to be bumps along the road. By having an accountability partner, you are ensuring that you will stay on track when times get tough.
The majority of people don’t live their dream life. They never intended to live the life they currently have. But they are there because they allow negative thoughts to take root in their minds and they lack a purpose. Again, ask anyone that is unhappy with life what their life purpose is and see what answer you get. Most likely you won’t get an answer. If you can learn to follow the steps I laid out here for you, you can begin to live your dream life and be the best you possible.
