things always work out in the endThings always work out for me in the end. You might get the impression that I am fairly arrogant. I’d like to think (and my friends and family will confirm) that I am the farthest thing from arrogant. But saying that things always work out for me in the end is the best way to describe my life. This doesn’t mean that nothing ever goes wrong for me. Quite the contrary. In fact, many, many things have gone wrong in my life and many more things still do and will in the future. But instead of focusing on those wrongs, I focus on the positive.

Things Always Work Out In The End

Short-Term versus Long-Term

I could easily focus on the short-term issues in my life. If I get caught in traffic or don’t get a raise, I could put all of my energy into getting mad or frustrated, huffing and puffing. But what’s the point? What will that accomplish? Nothing. In fact, all it will result in is me raising my blood pressure and will waste my valuable time. Instead of focusing on the short-term issue, I focus on the long-term.

Sure I got caught in traffic. That stinks. But laying on my horn won’t make the car in front of me move. Neither will me jumping out of my car, running up to the car ahead of me and tearing off his side view mirror in anger. So, I stay in my car and enjoy the extra time I get to listen to my favorite CD or I use the time to think about any issues in my life that are unresolved. Maybe I need to put some more thought into buying a new car or buying my girlfriend a birthday gift. The point is, I use the time to my benefit.

What does this have to do with things always work out in the end? Everything. First off, when in a traffic jam, I find that the cars start moving much faster when I am enjoying myself than they ever did when I was about to have a heart attack because I was screaming obscenities at the top of my lungs.

I Realized Things Always Work Out In The End

This works for bigger issues as well. At one point I hated my job. When I say hate, I detested it. I would come up with excuses to call in sick when I wasn’t sick. When layoffs were being announced, I crossed my fingers in hopes my name would be on that list. That is how much I hated my job. I went out on countless interviews for other jobs. Nothing ever came of them. I even offered one to keep my first paycheck! (OK, I’m joking about that one.)

Then one day, I received a call back for an interview. It was for a great position. I arrived to the office earlier than I expected, so I sat in my car for a few minutes. Before I went in, there in my car, I closed my eyes and thanked the universe for bringing me this opportunity. I said that regardless how the interview goes, whether I get the job or not, I was OK with it.

Fast forward a few weeks and I was offered the job and love every minute of it. I was elated. What am I trying to tell you? I am telling you to focus on the long-term, on the end result. I failed many times with other interviews before landing this job. But all along, I focused on the positive, on the long-term and everything worked out for me in the end.

Final Thoughts

Do your best to ignore the short-term failures and tough times. Find the positive in them. It’s not easy by any stretch of the imagination. For many years I too got caught up in the moment. I can tell you from experience, that learning to let it go and focus on the long-term is much easier, healthier, and better. Learn to live your live with the belief that things always work out in the end.

  1. Great story i must say. I can relate to this on so many levels. However i do think you missed a key element there when it comes to things “working out for the better”.

That element being ” If its ment to be, it will be”.

When you say you went to countless failed interviews i dont think they were failures at all. In my experience i feel you werent meant to get thoes jobs because you were meant for the job you have now that you love. I feel the interviews you went on were just the universes way of preparing you for the job you are meant to have. I have a story almost like yours with so many twists and turns and it all worked out. But this is your story.

    Congrats and all the best.
